Under the direction of Dr. Timothy Kuzel, Medical Director, and Renee Riphenburg-Webb, Administrative Director, the Clinical Research Office serves four basic functions:

Clinical Trials Data Management is provided by Clinical Research Nurse Specialists and Clinical Research Coordinators who work with doctors to directly coordinate and facilitate all activities for patients involved in oncology research protocols.

Clinical Trials Administration is provided by Clinical Research Office staff to prepare and process all regulatory, contract, and Institutional Review Board (IRB) documents related to institutional, cooperative group, and industrial protocols for all members of the Hematology/Oncology Division. In addition, all IRB materials for any cancer related protocols within the institution are reviewed by this office before submission to the IRB.

Center Coordination is provided by the Clinical Research Office for the five Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center partners and five national cooperative group affiliates.

Clinical Protocol Scientific Review and Monitoring is the peer review process performed for investigator initiated institutional protocols which are not otherwise reviewed by external NCI-approved sponsors (e.g. NSF, EPA, VA, FDA, American Institute for Cancer Research (AIR), National Office of the American Cancer Society.  The complete list of NCI-approved peer review and funding agency boards is listed at: http://www3.cancer.gov/cancercenters/funding.html)  The CPSRMC is an independent peer review board mandated and governed by the NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) for the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center.
